Many editors are good, but few provide the level of expertise that Deborah Porter of Finesse Editing provides. She completely understands the workings of the different genres of writing, so when she edits a book, she looks at it from both a mechanical viewpoint—is everything technically correct?and also from the reader viewpoint—is the writer conveying his ideas in such a way that the reader will get them?
She spots what a writer sometimes misses: Have I overused certain words? Have I been consistent in characterization, descriptions, tone, and plot? Have I varied the length and structure of my sentences?
Deborah looks at these elements and so much more. She was invaluable in the polishing of my collection of short stories, Her Safari, which will be published in late spring, 2011. My publisher has commented more than once on the quality of the editing.
